“Be of service. Whether you make yourself available to a friend or co-worker, or you make time every month to do volunteer work, there is nothing that harvests more of a feeling of empowerment than being of service to someone in need.“
Gillian Anderson

WHO WE ARE

MMDA K-9 Corps was founded in 2012 by Ramon J. Santiago, who was then consultant to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Disaster Risk Reduction and Control. The organization aims to produce at least five SAR K-9 teams per Barangay within Metro Manila. It’s sole purpose is to prepare households for The Big One.
Formally established in 2016 as a volunteer-based organization, MMDA K-9 Corps will soon be bringing free search and rescue training to local municipalities and cities within Metro Manila. We have expanded our family to benefit the community where you reside. Visit Barangay Ayala Alabang Search and Rescue, MMDA-Thames K9 Group and the Muntinlupa City Search and Rescue. These SAR teams will be utilized in search and rescue operations during disaster response.
We are not professional dog trainers or commercial breeders. We are cynophilists who continue to learn on how to become effective canine handlers. We are private citizen volunteers from different demographic and backgrounds.
OUR TRAINING

We pride ourselves in applying the best practices of canine trainers around the globe. Our training method is being developed and tested collectively by volunteer handlers through hours and hours of training. We are creating basic and advanced SAR training curriculum with foundation based from the Baden K-9 philosophy of dog-handler communication.
To these K-9 teams, saving lives is serious business. We do not teach tricks. We teach pure dog-handler communication. No treats or toys required.
